How We Do It

India, like many countries, has a shortage of healthcare workers. Healing Hands for India provides not only scholarships for Nursing Education, but because of that education, orphan girls are empowered to be able to escape poverty and support their future families. And there is, of course, the added benefit of increasing the capacity to deliver care in medically under -served situations. Scholarships are $1,700 for a three-and-a-half year program in General Nursing and Midwifery and $6,000 for a four-year program leading to a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing.

Individual scholarships

Healing Hands for India intends to award individual college scholarships to poor students who live at home and attend school or college. The reason to institute these scholarships is that many poor but promising students cannot afford to study and are forced to drop out. Economic struggles in families can occur due to the death or a serious illness of a family member.

Healing Hands for India endeavors to offer scholarships to children, specifically female children. The proposed funding would be as follows:

• Students in primary and middle school – $350 per year
• Students in high school – $500 per year
• Students in college – $1,000 per year
• Students for the professional courses – $1,250
• Students in the BSc in Nursing program – $1,500 per year

Since nursing is a very sustainable career, and given there is a need for nurses, Healing Hands for India believes that such employment would benefit not only the nurse and patients, but also the larger family and community. For students in a BS in Nursing Program, Healing Hands for India seeks to provide individual scholarships of $1,500 per year. To support the individual scholarships Healing Hands for India endeavors to raise $250,000.
