Call for Help to Support the Poor in India – COVID-19

Due to the spread of COVID-19, the Indian Government announced a complete country-wide lock down as of March 22.  The most affected are the migrant workers, daily wage earners, those in the slums and villages who already have been living a hand-to-mouth existence. Healing Hands for India in coordination with its Indian partners has been reaching out to the poor through the provision of cooked food and non-perishable food kits. The cost of a food kit ranges from Rs 650 to 1000 ($9-$14).

We plan to reach out to over 40,000 families. Your help is most urgently needed, now more than ever before.

We have been already supporting a few orphanages for children, and a home for the destitute. On any given day the food needs of almost half of children living in these orphanages were met by donations, however due to the lock down and the risk of COVID-19, people are not bringing donations, nor are the orphanages able to receive food donations from outside. Three orphanages together take care of over 250 children and adults, and the destitute home houses 30 mentally-ill patients.  The cost of food per day per person is Rs 70 ($1).
